Thermo King®, a leader in transport temperature control solutions and a brand of Trane Technologies, will unveil the latest technology developments that meet the needs for sustainable, clean, and high-performance rail heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems at InnoTrans 2022, to be held in Berlin, Germany from September 20 to 23. Among the showcased innovations will be the new light weight LRC unit co-developed together with Alstom and SNCF Voyageurs in France. The unit features R-454C, an A2L class, low global warming potential (GWP) refrigerant to ensure high levels of performance and safety while helping rail operators meet their sustainability goals and stay ahead of future regulation.
“For decades, Thermo King has been a trusted expert and a committed partner to leading railcars manufacturers and operators, offering world-class rail HVAC solutions. Around the globe our solutions across tramways, double-decker, light rail, metro and high-speed rail applications reduce energy consumption and costs, while increasing passenger comfort and minimizing the carbon footprint,” said Claudio Zanframundo, vice president and general manager Thermo King Marine, Rail and Air. “Today we are coming to InnoTrans to demonstrate our expertise and solutions that combine high performance, reliability and passenger comfort but with an improved environmental performance.”
The new Thermo King LRC A2L unit – on display at the Thermo King booth 240 in Hall 3.1 – has been developed together with Alstom and SNCF Voyageurs to meet the light rail compact vehicles operators’ requirements for combining cooling capacity, power consumption, low weight, and ease-of-maintenance, with the benefits of the low GWP, non-explosive refrigerant. The unit can deliver high ambient performance, offering cooling in temperatures up to 52°C, and has been extensively tested in accordance to the railcar manufacturer’s and railway operator’s standards.
“Collaboration is key to providing HVAC solutions that meet our customers’ needs. Thermo King engineering, sales and service, dealers and customers, along with OEMs, work together to deliver operational benefits without sacrificing passenger comfort and safety,” said Alex Zankl. “Our customers can be assured, that Thermo King remains committed throughout the life of the products starting with the research and development program and product testing through to aftersales service and support with our extensive global dealer network.”
The new solutions are part of Thermo King’s overall approach to reducing carbon emissions in the industries it serves, and help advance Trane Technologies’ bold 2030 Sustainability Commitments, including the Gigaton Challenge to reduce customer greenhouse gas emissions by 1 billion metric tons.
